Gibraltar Industries is a leading manufacturer and distributor of products for building markets. The company serves customers in multiple industries across the United States and the world. In addition to locations throughout the United States, Gibraltar also has offices in Canada, England and Germany.

The Challenge
Gibraltar Industries wanted to centralize application services from corporate headquarters and provide cost effective, optimized and secure delivery of services to their many remote locations with WAN optimization. They had specific goals to accelerate delivery of CIFS, HTTP, and print protocols and critical business applications, such as Microsoft SharePoint, Oracle, and Exchange.
 

The company required a solution that would ultimately enable them to reduce overall costs and easily provide high-levels of support and service to remote locations. While the company wanted to realize benefits of more centralized IT services, they did not want to sacrifice performance or availability. In addition, Gibraltar Industries wanted to increase inbound security threat protection from the Internet with web content filtering, something the organization was lacking.
 

The company understood there were a number of approaches and different technologies that could be leveraged to accomplish this goal.
 

The Solution
After a careful review, Gibraltar Industries determined technology from Blue Coat could best help them achieve both objectives of WAN optimization and improved web security. At this point, the company began working with Blue Coat’s trusted partner and data security experts, K logix.
 

K logix helped the company design the architecture and implement the solution at more than 20 remote locations.

K logix also provided expert training and critical support to the Gibraltar IT team throughout the process.

The Result
With the implementation completed on-time, effectively and cost efficiently, Gibraltar is beginning to see the results of the implementation – including incremental bandwidth improvements across the board with dramatic improvements at key locations.
